Genesis 1:26–27 NIV

26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” 27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

Matthew 19:12 NIV

For there are eunuchs who were born that way, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by others — and there are those who choose to live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it.

I have been made complete in Christ.

… in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority. (Colossians 2:10)

I was formerly darkness, but now I am light in the Lord.

… you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light. (Ephesians 5:8)

I am God’s workmanship created to produce good works.

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. (Ephesians 2:10)

I am redeemed and forgiven by the grace of Christ.

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace. (Ephesians 1:7)

I have been made one with all who are in Christ Jesus.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:28)

Discussion Igniters

How much have you engaged with the discussion around gender identity? Was anything from this week’s message new to you?

Read Ephesians 2:10, Genesis 1:26-27, and 1 John 3:1-2. What do these passages say about our identity? How does that impact the way we should view ourselves?

How have you let gender stereotypes inform your identity?

What other ways have you identified in what culture tells you instead of trusting your identity in Christ?

How can we approach the conversation around gender identity with grace and truth?
