Sharing Your Faith: How to Live and Multiply the Gospel Message

Have you ever wondered what it means to truly share your faith with others? It's not just about knowing the right words to say or having all the theological answers. It's about something much deeper - a transformed life that naturally overflows to impact those around you.

The heart of Christianity isn't about gathering in crowds but about unleashing an army of believers who are equipped to reach the world for Jesus, one person at a time. This happens through creating biblical disciples in relational environments.

What Does It Mean to Share Your Faith?

Before you can share something, you need to acquire it first. You cannot give away what you don't possess. When it comes to faith, this means:

  •  Sharing the good news of who Jesus is and what He's about
  • Sharing your transformed life so others can see His transforming power
  • Sharing new truths that have changed your perspective
  • Sharing new habits that have developed because of His love

The question is: are you ready to be a player in God's kingdom, or just a fan cheering from the sidelines?

Reconnecting with Your First Love

Do you remember your first love? That overwhelming feeling that changed everything about how you saw the world? Discipleship is rooted in love - not rules or obligations, but connection and passion.

Jesus made this clear when asked about the greatest commandment:

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." (Matthew 22:37-40)

When our hearts are fully engaged with God, everything else - our choices, actions, habits, and worldview - naturally flows from that love. And this love isn't meant to stay private; it's meant to transform you and those around you.

How Do I Stop Conforming to the World's Patterns?

Romans 12:2 challenges us: "Do not conform to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."

What worldly patterns are you conforming to? How are you renewing your mind? This transformation isn't about following a set of rules or checking boxes. Jesus isn't a to-do list - He is life-changing love that gives you a new path and community.

Daily devotion is critical to this transformation. Consider making worship a regular part of your week, not just something you do on Sundays. Prepare your heart by listening to worship music throughout the week. These small habits can profoundly change your perspective.

Surrendering Your Will to God's Will

Jesus modeled surrender in the Garden of Gethsemane when He prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; yet not as I will, but as you will." The Lord's Prayer echoes this: "Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven."

Is your life about your will or God's will? Learning to surrender and trust is part of what we'll be able to share with others - how we surrendered and how we trusted God.

Understanding the Gospel Message

The gospel message reminds us that "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23), but "it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Salvation is a free gift to anyone who receives it, and it's just the beginning of our journey. Faith is both inward and outward:

  •  An inward belief in Jesus and an outward confession
  • An inward decision to follow and an outward expression through baptism

Imagine being a prisoner who has been pardoned. The pardon has been signed and freedom guaranteed, but until you step out of the cell, you remain captive. How many of us are still in cells because we haven't fully accepted the pardon Jesus offers?

Developing New Truths and New Habits

Discipleship doesn't stop at surrender. Once we receive Jesus, we experience new life, and the next step is learning to live it out daily through new truths and new habits.

Are you still discovering new truths and developing new habits, or has your faith become stagnant? Following Jesus means embracing new ways of thinking and living. Once you embrace them, you have something meaningful to share.

The Power of Community and Finding Your "One"

Who in your life is mentoring you spiritually? And who are you mentoring? Finding your "one" means having one person discipling you and one person you're discipling.

Think of a young basketball player with raw talent. On their own, they might be good, but it's not until they train with a coach and team that their skill truly develops. Small groups are your faith training team - they help you practice your faith, sharpen your understanding, and encourage you when the journey feels difficult.

Accessing the Holy Spirit's Power

Even with community and mentorship, we can't live this out in our own strength. That's why Jesus promised us a helper - the Holy Spirit.

In John 14:15-18, Jesus says: "If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth... for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you."

The Holy Spirit:

  •  Guides us into truth
  • Teaches us and gives us obedience
  • Strengthens us daily

The Spirit isn't just an influence or force like gravity; He is a person to be known, loved, and relied upon. Think about sailing - you can have the best boat and equipment, but without wind, you're going nowhere. The Holy Spirit is like the wind in our sails, not just pointing us in the right direction but supplying the very power to move forward.

Multiplying Your Faith

The Spirit empowers us not just to live as disciples but to multiply disciples - to bear witness and equip each other. This means:

  •  Sharing the good news
  • Connecting others to community
  • Ministering with our gifts
  • Discipling others toward maturity

Each of us has spiritual gifts that others don't have. Ask the Holy Spirit what gifts He has given you and how you are to use them in His kingdom.

Life Application

Where are you in your faith journey today?

  •  For some, today might be your first step - you need to surrender and receive salvation.
  • For others, you need to rekindle your first love for God.
  • For many, you need to begin new spiritual rhythms or refresh old ones that have become mere checkboxes.
  • For others, it's time to take your next step by finding your "one" - someone to mentor you and someone for you to mentor.

This week, challenge yourself to:

  •  Have at least one intentional spiritual conversation with someone in your life.
  • Ask yourself daily: "Lord, what do you want from me today?"
  • Identify one worldly pattern you've been conforming to and take a step toward transformation.
  • Begin seeking your "one" - either someone who can disciple you or someone you can disciple.

Remember, we're not called to just build an audience or a church, but to unleash an army that will reach the world for Jesus, one person at a time. What step will you take today?
